Position Summary
CORIX Utilities has an immediate career opportunity for a Meter Reader. This position is home based in the Tacoma, Washington area and our main office is located in Kirkland, Washington
Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for reading gas and electric meters and record volume used by residential and commercial consumers to ensure accurate consumption and billing.
Performs gas and electric meter reading and gas meter module installation:
Receives daily route information and organizes route maps/ and plans route from home site.
Drive company vehicle to first residence/business on route; uses map to locate site if necessary and verifies address using hand held device.
Walk/ drive route to each customer site. May walks up 5 miles daily.
Locate meter and determines if it is accessible/poses safety hazards. If meter is in the building, gets permission from occupant to enter (there must be an adult occupant, 18 years of age or older in order for reader to enter). Checks hand held device to verify meter number to see if there are any notes about site (i.e., location of meter, obstacles, dogs).
Answer customer's questions or directs them to customer service.
Read numeric data indicated on the meter and records into hand held device.
Inspect meter and connections for defects, damage and unauthorized use if required per contract. Enters information into hand held device .
Maintain and secures company equipment and confidential information.
At end of shift, report to Supervisor and enters into hand held device any problem such as meter irregularities, damaged equipment, or impediments to meter access, including dogs. Returns hand held device.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Attention to detail and accuracy to record meter data
Ability to read, write, follow, and complete written instructions.
Ability to find locations/address by reading a map and hand held device.
Ability to key data into hand held device. Basic computer skills helpful.
Ability to communicate and interact with customers in a professional manner.
Ability to walk route, which includes stairs and unpaved/rough terrain areas, of up to 5 miles each day
Must hold a valid driver's license.
Must pass Meter-Pro test.
Must have ability to see/read hand held device and meter in order to accurately read and record data.
Prefer Candidates that reside within a 10-12 mile radius of Tacoma, WA.

Has access to confidential client information.
This position requires working outdoors in all-weather environments including rain, snow, extreme cold, or high heat. Requires travel by car; may be exposed to road related hazards. Requires walking up to 5 miles daily which includes walking at a brisk pace, climbing stairs and walking on unpaved/rough terrain areas.
Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted, walking, kneeling, twisting, turning, stooping, reaching, and bending; getting in and out of vehicle. Exposed to unknown hazards at resident sites such as dogs. Must use safety equipment as assigned.
Must have ability to see/read hand held device and meter in order to accurately read and record data.
